Jewish learning, without distance

Many Jewish families live far from a yeshiva, a Jewish day school or even a local teacher, especially in the smaller communities of Europe. Shoresh exists so that distance is no longer the barrier.

Shoresh is an online Jewish educational centre. Through live classes, children and adults learn Torah, build real skills in reading the texts, and connect with other Jewish learners, wherever they live. We are the People of the Book, and every Jewish family, observant or not, deserves to know its stories, its texts and its place in the chain.

Born in a small community, built for every community

Shoresh, meaning "root" in Hebrew, began in Helsinki, home to a Jewish community small in size but rich in spirit. We know first-hand what it means to raise a Jewish family far from the large centres of Jewish life, and that experience shapes everything we teach.

Helsinki remains our home base. From time to time we hold local events and gatherings here, and the city is home to Kol Shoresh, our weekly Shabbat magazine, and our guides to Jewish life and kosher food in Helsinki. Our classroom is open to the world.

Strengthening small communities

We aim for Shoresh to become a platform that strengthens smaller Jewish communities across Europe and beyond, making serious, joyful Jewish learning reachable wherever it is needed.

Every child who learns to read a pasuk, every parent who opens a Gemara for the first time, is one more link in a chain that has never been broken.
